In October 2017, a third nighttime Fly Quiet Runway Rotation Test at O'Hare International Airport was completed. The tests programs were designed to provide residents and business owners near the airport near-term noise relief, reducing the impact of noise on highest impacted communities, and providing airplane arrival and departure predictability.
As a result of these test programs, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) submitted a proposed plan to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to implement an interim Fly Quiet program designed to take effect late 2018 and remain in place until 2020 when the new runway 9C/27C is scheduled to be commissioned.
The proposed interim Fly Quiet program will include the same nighttime runway rotation plan that was in place for the third test program. See the Fly Quiet Runway Rotation Plan page for more information.
