On March 1, 2010, the provisions of Public Act 96-0856 impacting
Illinois municipalities took effect. The Act requires a
municipality to publish on its website an address to which
notices of foreclosure and confirmations of sale are to be sent.
This publication requirement corresponds to the new duty imposed on
banks and other mortgagees to provide notices of foreclosure and
confirmation of sale to the municipality in which property is
located, as a part of the mortgage foreclosure process. These
notice requirements will enable municipalities to better monitor
property maintenance problems associated with residential
properties in foreclosure.
